Signature of a Stylist – the common thread running through a style-true wardrobe.
Before-and-after stylings never quite capture how style actually develops. For a better, if still limited, insight, here’s a photo stream charting the growth of a client’s wardrobe, built faithfully to style and successively added to; from a colour and style consultation, through personal shopping trips, to the follow-up styling appointments.
As a style consultant or stylist, I look at fashion from the client’s point of view: physical characteristics, personality, personal instincts, preferences, environment, professional and private, life stages – all of it counts when I’m creating in this context. And it’s a small, creative, deeply individual act every single time, fuelled by passion! The starting point for style development is usually a style and/or colour-type consultation, in which a solid foundation is laid for the what and how; visualisations play a major role in that.
Client S.E. now makes her decisions with confidence and conviction, and with a remarkably refined instinct for what suits her and which piece can genuinely add something to her wardrobe. Unwelcome solo shopping trips can be dispensed with for a good while to come; after all, a stylish, functional and sustainable wardrobe is the whole point of this process. Valuable time is freed up for other things. Seen this way, a style consultation or a personal shopping session isn’t an expense at all, but far more a saving of time and money – and an investment in the future.
Or, put rather more poetically, in his book: Clothing is the most everyday of all art forms. No other art is as close to us. (Alessandro Michele)
